About Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins play professional ice hockey. The team is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and they are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the NHL. Pittsburgh was one of the first six cities to be awarded an expansion. This was at the time when the NHL grew to double in size for the beginning of the 1967-68 season. The Penguins were faced with a tragic event in 1970. Promising rookie, Michel Briere, met with an accident. The car crash that he was involved in caused him to spend a year in hospital before succumbing to his injuries. The team had to do without him in the playoff with little success ahead.
